Dorsey has hired partner Rachel Han to improve its capital markets practice in Hong Kong, which is a rare addition at a foreign firm, given the recent downturn in the city’s sector.

Due to the downturn in the mainland and Hong Kong capital markets recently, some foreign law firms have streamlined their local capital markets or corporate practice teams.

For instance, Kirkland & Ellis laid off at least nine Hong Kong capital markets lawyers in March, and Dechert reduced its corporate practice team in the same month, eventually confirming its complete exit from the Chinese market in July.

Han, previously a partner at Dentons, specialises in equity capital markets, corporate finance, and M&A. She also has extensive experience in general commercial matters, advising various clients in the consumer, infrastructure and construction, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, automotive, renewable energy, investment, and financial services sectors.

Dorsey says Han, along with bilingual partner Megan Penick and associates Song Jia in the New York office and Lin Qing in the Beijing office, will provide access to the US and Hong Kong capital markets within the equity capital markets practice.
