New Malaysian firm Ong Eu Jin Partnership has recruited quad-qualified lawyer Sunny Liew as a partner, who has a strong record in advising Chinese corporate clients on their outbound investments into Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

“Sunny is ideal as he has been based in China for about 20 years. He has a solid network in China and understands the requirements and thought process of China-based clients,” Ong Eu Jin, the founding managing partner of Ong Eu Jin Partnership told Asia Business Law Journal.

While China remains one of Malaysia’s leading foreign investors and its net foreign direct investment inflows have been on the rise in recent years, Ong expects this upward trend to continue.

Qualified to practise law in England and Wales, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong, Liew focuses on cross-border M&A, joint ventures and corporate advisory services and is a veteran with more than 30 years of experience in corporate law. Most recently, he served as a partner at Ernst & Young in Shanghai, accumulating his expertise in China-related matters.

With the addition of Liew, Ong Eu Jin Partnership now has 17 lawyers in total. The firm was founded in September 2024 by Ong, who was a co-founding partner of Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership. Currently, the firm specialises in capital markets and M&As, with an emphasis on deals with a foreign or cross-border element.

“Our immediate plan is to expand our capabilities for cross-border deals especially Singapore and other countries in the Southeast Asia region,” said Ong.
