DeHeng Law Offices has officially opened its doors in Riyadh, the capital city of Saudi Arabia, becoming the first PRC law firm to establish a presence in the country.
The new office, co-led by partner William Jia and Saudi lawyer Dhari Saad Alharbi, is affiliated with locally based DSH Law Firm and it currently has a team of 18 lawyers.
Jia, who specialises in international engineering, project finance and dispute resolution, also serves as the head of DeHeng’s Dubai office. He is the only Chinese lawyer licensed to practice in China and Dubai, bringing more than 30 years of experience to the role, including two decades spent in Dubai.
Earlier this year, the Saudi enforcement court recognised and enforced an award by the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission in a loan default case, amounting to RMB240 million (USD33 million).
This award is the largest recognised and enforced by a Saudi court. Jia led the team in advising the Chinese companies involved in this case.
