Introduction

Qi Yuan is a partner at the dispute resolution department of King & Wood Mallesons, which she joined in 2012. Prior to this, she worked as a registered foreign lawyer in Singapore local law firms, where she gained substantial work experience, accumulating a wide range of local resources that have enabled her to assist clients in conducting various local businesses in Singapore.

Qi specialises in cross-border dispute resolution, as well as litigation and arbitration related to capital markets and real estate. She is well-known for handling contentious cases of private clients, and her more than 16 years experience as a corporate litigator has enabled her to provide pragmatic solutions and proactive strategies.

Qi has represented a large number of difficult and complicated international litigation and arbitration cases at all levels of China’s courts and arbitration institutions, including the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA), the Sharm el-Sheikh International Arbitration Centre, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre. She has fought for a retrial procedure before the Supreme People‘s Court and a protest procedure before the Supreme People’s Procuratorate. Her cases include project development and exit, disputes over equity and control rights, corporate governance, international trade and trust disputes, involving real estate, multinational companies, funds, new energy, manufacturing and large traders, among others.

Qi has a unique advantage in providing legal services to Hong Kong and Singapore investors in resolving complex China-related commercial disputes, working together with foreign lawyers in cross-border cases, and providing insightful views on risk control and crisis management.

Qi is a member of the Talent Pool of Leading Foreign Lawyers in Guangdong and the Talent Pool of Leading Foreign Lawyers in Shenzhen. She was conferred the “Rising Star” award by IFLR1000 from 2022 to 2024 and named in the “Top 10 Outstanding Lawyers” by China Legal Education & Career Seminar Series. She is an arbitrator at the SCIA (Jiangmen) and co-wrote the real estate chapter of the 2020 and 2021 Commercial Disputes Resolution: An Annual Review and Preview.

Qi obtained her LLB from Shandong University in China, and her LLM in maritime law from National University of Singapore.
