Summit Chen

Introduction

Summit Chen, a first-grade lawyer, is the vice-chair of Dacheng’s advisory committee and a board member. He is a director and a senior partner at the firm’s Shanghai office. Having practised for 20 years, Chen has rich professional theoretical knowledge and experience in law and economics, providing legal services in both domestic and overseas commercial undertakings. His practice area focuses on corporate, finance, construction engineering, infrastructure and energy, and major complex commercial dispute resolution. Chen is a 15th and 16th Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress deputy, the vice president of both the Shanghai Law Society’s Belt and Road legal research committee and Case Law Research Association, a part-time professor at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics’ Dishui Lake Advanced Finance Institute, a distinguished professor at East China University of Political Science and Law’s Lawyer’s College, a part-time master tutor at Fudan University’s Law School and Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, as well as an arbitrator at the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission and more than 10 other arbitration institutions. Chen’s main honours and awards include: the Ministry of Justice’s “National Outstanding Lawyer” in 2021; All China Lawyers Association’s “National Outstanding Lawyer” from 2011 to 2014; “The Oriental Best Lawyer”; China Business Law Journal’s “The A-List” of China’s “elite lawyers” 2023-2024, “The A-List Visionaries” in 2021 and 2022, “The A-List China’s Elite 100 Lawyers” in 2021 and 2022, and “Deals of the Year” in 2016 and 2018. He was listed among Chambers and Partners’ “eminent

practitioners” in corporate/commercial from 2021 to 2024, and as a “ranked lawyer” in the same category in 2019 and 2020. He was awarded Benchmark Litigation’s “Shanghai Lawyer of the Year” in 2024, listed by The Legal 500 among “recommended lawyers” in four areas: corporate and M&A, dispute resolution (litigation), dispute resolution (arbitration), and technology, media and telecoms in 2020 and from 2022 to 2024. He was named in Legalband’s “top ranked lawyers” in dispute resolution (arbitration) and “China’s top 15 arbitration lawyers” in 2024, “China’s top 15 lawyers” in automobile and manufacturing in 2023, and “recommended lawyers” in construction from 2020 to 2021. IFLR1000 included him among its “recommended lawyers” in corporate and M&A from 2019 to 2020 and from 2022 to 2023. Asian Legal Business listed him in its “top 15 litigation lawyers of China” in 2018.
