Virginia Xiang

Introduction

Virginia Xiang, a member of DOCVIT Law Firm’s Management Committee, director of the Management Committee of the Shenzhen Office and senior partner, graduated from Southwest University of Political Science and Law and Wuhan University.

With 20 years of legal practice, Xiang specialises in comprehensive legal services across the construction industry chain. She has led several significant working groups, including the revision of the Model General Construction Contract for the Shenzhen Bureau of Public Works, the drafting of construction contract templates for the Luohu District Legislative Affairs Office, and the development of foreign-related schematic design contract templates for Shenzhen Qianhai Construction Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd. She has successfully handled numerous complex construction dispute cases.

Xiang has long served real estate developers, construction enterprises and government institutions, providing comprehensive legal services for Shenzhen’s major civil engineering and landmark construction projects. She has offered full-cycle legal services for dozens of construction projects valued at over RMB100 million (USD13.7 million), covering areas such as project bidding, contract negotiations, project management and dispute resolution.

In construction dispute resolution, she excels in handling complex cases involving project payment settlements, construction contract disputes and subcontracting disputes. She has successfully represented clients in several major construction disputes with claims exceeding RMB100 million, securing optimal outcomes through innovative litigation strategies. Her profound understanding of construction law practice enables her to devise tailored solutions based on industry characteristics.

Her professional achievements include: Outstanding Committee Member of the Construction Law Professional Committee of the Shenzhen Lawyers Association (2021); Outstanding Female Lawyer, awarded by the Shenzhen Lawyers Association (2022); establishment of the Virginia Xiang Scholarship for Excellence in Law and Ethics at Shenzhen University Law School in 2022 to support underprivileged law students; and Outstanding External Instructor, an honour conferred by the Southwest University of Political Science and Law in 2023 for her contribution to its Elite Legal Writing Training Programme.

Xiang is a registered foreign lawyer in Hong Kong and serves as vice director of the Small and Mid-Sized Law Firm Development and Guidance Committee of the Shenzhen Lawyers Association; a member of the Construction Engineering Professional Committee of the Shenzhen Lawyers Association; an arbitrator for the Heyuan Arbitration Commission; an external supervisor for Master of Laws programs at Shenzhen University Law School; vice president of the Shenzhen Alumni Association of Southwest University of Political Science and Law; and vice president of the Shaoyang Chamber of Commerce in Shenzhen.
