Nafisa Nihmat

Introduction

Nafisa Nihmat has a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from East China University of Political Science and Lawand an Emory University CLM.

She is an equity partner at Zhong Lun Law Firm; an arbitrator at the Shanghai Arbitration Commission and the Hangzhou Arbitration Commission; a member of the Legislative Work Expert Database of Pudong New Area Judicial Bureau and the International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Professionals (INSOL International); a director of the Finance and Tax Law Committee of the Shanghai Law Society; a member of the Bankruptcy and Non-performing Assets Committee of Shanghai Lawyers Association and the Publicity Committee of the Shanghai Bankruptcy Administrators Association; and a lecturer at Qingdao Lawyer Institute.

She is also a former representative of the People’s Congress of Shanghai, Pudong New Area. Nihmat was listed in the National Civil and Administrative Case Consultation Expert Database by the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the PRC in 2020.

Nihmat has long focused on bankruptcy, insolvency and reorganisation, acquisition and disposal of non-performing assets, debt restructuring and pre-restructuring, and corporate and institutional debt crisis public relations.

She has rich professional experience in these fields and has handled several large-scale and complex bankruptcy reorganisation and distressed M&A cases. Her performance in these matter induced wide influence at home and abroad. From 2019 to 2024, Nihmat was honoured as a Recognised Practitioner – Restructuring/Insolvency (PRC Firms) by Chambers Asia-Pacific, and she featured in The A-List: China’s Top 100 Lawyers by China Business Law Journal for five consecutive years. She was selected among 25 Influential Figures by Forbes China 100 Outstanding Overseas Returnees in 2023.

The large-scale bankruptcy reorganisation and liquidation cases on which she has worked have been repeatedly honoured as Typical Cases by the Supreme People’s court, high courts and renowned assessment agencies. The Fengli Group Co., Ltd, bankruptcy restructuring case, in which Nihmat acted as the legal adviser to the bankruptcy administrator, was recognised in Deals of the Year 2016 by China Business Law Journal.

The consolidated bankruptcy restructuring of Zhoushan Haozhou Group Co., Ltd, and its 11 affiliates, in which Nihmat acted as the leader of the bankruptcy administrators, was recognised as Top 10 Typical Bankruptcy Cases of Zhejiang Province in 2019 and Top 10 Excellent Performing Cases of Bankruptcy Administrator Association of Zhejiang Province in 2019.

The consolidated bankruptcy restructuring of Shandong Tranlin Group Co., Ltd, and its 22 affiliates, in which Nihmat acted as the joint restructuring adviser to the bankruptcy administrator, was recognised among the Top 10 Typical Bankruptcy Cases of Shandong Province in 2021.

Nihmat was the deputy group leader of the liquidation team in the bankruptcy restructuring of Harbin Gong Da High-Tech Enterprise Development Co., Ltd, and its four affiliates, a case that was reported in the special issue of the People’s Court Daily and was recognised as National Bankruptcy Classic Case for 2023 It was among the Top 10 Typical Cases of the High People’s Court of Heilongjiang Province in serving the high-quality development of the private economy, and was also awarded LegalOne Merits (Exemplary) of China for 2023 by LegalOne.

In the bankruptcy liquidation case of Shanghai Q&K Public Rental Housing Rental Management Co., Ltd, in which Nihmat acted as the leader of the bankruptcy administrators, was recognised among The Typical Bankruptcy Cases and Top 10 Excellent Performing Cases of Bankruptcy Administrator of Shanghai Bankruptcy Court in 2023.

The bankruptcy liquidation to restructuring of Zhejiang Electrical Equipment Factory Co., Ltd, was recognised among the Typical Cases of Wage Arrears Disputes jointly released by the Supreme People’s Court, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and the All-China Federation of Trade Unions; and among the typical cases of corporate bankruptcy trials of the High Court of Zhejiang Province in 2023.
