Lyon Dong

Introduction

Lyon Dong, an equity partner at Grandall Law Firm, holds dual master’s degrees in law from East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPL) and National University of Singapore. Recognised as one of Asia’s leading lawyers by Asian Legal Business (ALB), Lyon is licensed in both China and the United States and is among the few PRC-qualified lawyers authorised to practise before the U.S. Supreme Court.

In 2023, Lyon was honoured as the National M&A Deal Maker of the Year and named a rising star in Business Law’s 2023-2024 A-List of Legal Elite. He was also listed among ALB CHINA’s Top 15 Rising Stars and was featured in Legalband’s Top 15 Innovative Lawyers.

Since becoming a partner in 2019, Lyon has consistently received accolades, including ALB CHINA’s Client’s Choice Lawyer, Rising Partner of the Year, and the Outstanding Contribution Award.

After earning dual master’s degrees, Lyon worked at a Red Circle law firm and later held senior roles at the U.S. headquarters and Greater China offices of two top global American firms.

Lyon has nearly 20 years of experience representing Chinese enterprises in cross-border investments and financing.

One of his recent career hallmarks is that he has taken the lead role as international and Chinese legal counsel for an unprecedented cross-border transaction: Saudi Aramco’s acquisition of a 10%+1 stake in Rongsheng Petrochemical, valued at RMB 24.6 billion (USD156.3 million). As the lead counsel, Lyon successfully manoeuvred this landmark deal to completion within just three months and 24 days, setting a record in terms of the closing time and investment monetary amount in China’s energy sector.

Lyon serves as a distinguished professor at ECUPL, a visiting lecturer at top law schools, a member of the Shenzhen Top Talents Development and Promotion Association, and a special researcher at the Shanghai Institute of International Economics. He regularly publishes legal analyses in international media and is a sought-after speaker at global legal forums and universities.
