Introduction

Tyler Hong Shik Won is a partner at the firm’s Seoul and Washington offices. He is also the managing partner of the firm’s Seoul office. He advises domestic and international clients on a wide range of legal matters, including site selection, economic incentives and real estate for many industries; mergers and acquisitions; international trade: Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, sanctions and export controls; antitrust, competition and trade regulation; and intellectual property.

Recently, he has successfully obtained significant economic incentives for clients on a national basis and has extensive experience drafting legislation for economic incentives and tax-related issues. He also advises clients by leading local and global companies with regulatory issues impacting their US and international operations, including compliance, risk mitigation and dispute resolution. His experience also expands to renewable energy projects, mergers and acquisitions, project finance and anti-corruption compliance.

Prior to joining the firm, Won was a partner in a Washington-headquartered international AmLaw 100 law firm, where he was co-chair of the Korea practice. His experience in this position included advising major international conglomerates and domestic companies in M&A, general corporate matters and antitrust issues with a focus on cross-border transactions. As a client advocate, he led and negotiated transactions, completed HSR clearance filings before the US Federal Trade Commission and the US Department of Justice, and supervised and co-ordinated legal due diligence and the drafting of due diligence reports.

Won began his legal practice at one of the largest Korean law firms, where he served as second chair on major corporate transactions. He advised Korean and international clients in various corporate, real estate development, employment and project finance matters.

Having practised in both Korea and the United States, Won brings a deep understanding of both cultures in the legal and business aspects. This dual perspective enables him to identify the client’s specific needs and provide tailored guidance that aligns with each client’s industry, business model and objectives.

Building on his cross-border experience, Won’s vision is to integrate the client-focused service culture of Korean law firms with the capabilities and expertise of a global firm. He is dedicated to building long-term partnerships with clients by delivering practical, business-driven solutions, and ensuring that Korean companies can successfully navigate the complex legal and regulatory challenges of global business.
