Bird & Bird has bolstered its corporate team in Singapore with the addition of cross-border M&A partner Shahin Foroughian, marking another step in the firm’s ongoing international expansion.

Jeremy Tan, partner at Bird & Bird, told Asia Business Law Journal that “there is pressure on funds to deploy capital into regional markets like Vietnam and Indonesia where the macro-economic factors, such as population size and age, cannot be ignored. There is certainly a lot of interest in these markets from a healthcare, media and tech perspective.”

Foroughian joins from Norton Rose Fulbright, bringing transactional expertise in Southeast Asia and Japan. His practice focuses on cross-border M&A, restructurings, joint ventures and corporate governance, particularly in the energy and utilities, and financial services sectors.

“There’s been an increase in demand for sustainability and impact investments. We’re also seeing more roll up acquisitions as international purchasers sense good buying opportunities in the depressed sectors in the Southeast Asian markets,” said Marcus Chow, partner at Bird & Bird.

Foroughian’s arrival comes as Bird & Bird continues to scale its corporate group globally, with 19 partner appointments across the practice in the past 18 months.
