Introduction
Xia Yu’s practice areas focus on dispute resolution. She is proficient at handling economic disputes, economic and job-related crimes, as well as risk warning, prevention and control for enterprises and entrepreneurs. Xia excels in systematically dealing with difficult and complex issues. She has extensive experience defending cases involving job-related, economic and securities crimes. She is also well-experienced in handling compliance matters for listed companies and those planning to go public.
Over years of practice, Xia has established her own professional team comprised of members who graduated from well-known universities in China and abroad, including doctoral supervisors, professors and young backbone instructors from top domestic political and legal universities. Under her leadership, the team has become increasingly mature, evolving into a criminal defence and dispute-resolution team with clear division of labour, close co-operation, and high professional efficiency.
Xia encourages team members to have a broad perspective when handling cases. Instead of being confined to the case itself, they look at the overall picture of case-related events, analyse from multiple angles and dimensions, and take into account criminal, civil and administrative legal risks. They seek breakthroughs even in seemingly impossible situations, providing solutions for clients. In many cases, they have reversed situations, achieving positive results for cases with great industry and social influence. As a result, they have built a good reputation in the industry.
Xia has published multiple professional articles in core journals such as People’s Procuratorate. She served as a member of the expert group drafting the “Compliance Standards for Small and Medium Enterprises”, and participated in the drafting of the “Applicable Guide for the Evaluation of Compliance Management System Effectiveness for Small and Medium Enterprises” and the book Administrative Regulation and Risk Prevention in the Securities Market.
Xia has also developed a series of courses, including “Criminal Risk Warning and Prevention for Lawyer Practice” and “General Course for Lawyer Practice: Criminal Law”. These have been designated as training courses by multiple provincial bar associations across China, which have commended her as an outstanding mentor. Xia, who is included in the expert database for official media such as CCTV, Rule of Law Daily and Xinhua News Agency, has frequently provided professional opinions on relevant legal issues.
Xia has been included in Chambers and Partners’ 2025 up-and-coming lawyer list for dispute resolution (litigation). In 2024, she was recognised as a “recommended lawyer” by Legal 500, awarded GRCD China’s “Client Preferred Compliance Lawyer: Criminal Law” and “Young Compliance Lawyer of the Year”. Xia has represented cases selected into the top 10 classic cases of acquittal defence in China.
