Introduction
Aaron Gu is a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in China’s life sciences and healthcare sectors, serving as a partner at Han Kun Law Offices. He is also a member of the Shanghai Bar Association’s professional committee of pharmaceutical and healthcare affairs and the vice president of the NYU Alumni Club in Shanghai. Gu specialises in corporate, regulatory compliance and transactional services for life sciences, biopharmaceutical, medical and healthcare industries, including biosecurity and human genetic resource issues, clinical trial matters, product marketing authorisations, GxP compliance, spinoff/new company transactions, drug licensing and collaboration, as well as regulatory issues involved in VC and PE investment, M&A, foreign and outbound investment in the life sciences industries. His services cover a full range of products including drugs (biologics and chemical drugs), medical devices, in vitro diagnostics, cosmetics, general foods, special foods (health foods, foods for special medical purposes and infant formulas), as well as animal drugs and foods.
Gu has extensive experience representing various types of companies in the life sciences industry, including major multinational pharmaceutical firms, leading Chinese innovative drug and biotechnology companies, as well as top domestic and international investment institutions.
Gu has co-authored the China chapter of Lexology In-Depth: Healthcare Law (formerly The Healthcare Law Review), sixth to eighth editions (2022-2024), the China section of Chambers Life Sciences Global Practice Guide (2022-2024), and other publications. Acknowledged for his outstanding and professional legal services in life sciences and healthcare, he has received numerous accolades from prestigious institutions such as Chambers and Partners, The Legal 500, Lex Falcon Global Awards, Asian Legal Business and Mondaq. He has also been frequently interviewed by the Financial Times, Caixin, Thomson Reuters, China Business Network, Southern Weekly and other media agencies.
Gu received his Bachelor of Laws from East China University of Political Science and Law, and his LLM degree from New York University School of Law. He has obtained legal practice certificates for both the PRC and New York state.
